What drew you to work on this show?
It's been a while since I've been in a show where I've gotten to be in big crazy dance numbers, and it's something that I really love because it's a bit of a challenge for me, so I'm super excited to be cast in a role that does an insane amount of dancing! I also love the pure joy that this classic story brings to everyone. Rehearsals are a blast not only because of the wonderful cast and crew, but because the story that we're telling is just so sweet and fun for people of all ages!
What is your past experience with theatre, and what has been your favourite previous project?
This is my fourth show with Secondary Characters, my first community show being SC's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat in 2013. Since then I've been in multiple other shows all around the Fraser Valley, gaining as much experience as I possibly can, on and offstage. I've competed in the Senior Musical Theatre category at the BC Arts Provincials competition for the past two years, and in 2015 won in the Senior Vocal Variety class. I will also be starting my third year at UFV this fall, studying Theatre and English. I've been very honoured to play some wonderful roles in the past few years, but my favourite so far would have to be Laurey Williams in Secondary Characters' production of Oklahoma! last summer. The future is also looking quite exciting though, as I've been cast to play Irene Molloy in one of my all-time favourite musicals, Hello, Dolly! with Fraser Valley Stage in Abbotsford this spring. I would love to see you there!
What was your primary introduction to the story of The Wizard of Oz, the movie, or the books? And what is your memory of your first impression of the story?
Honestly, I only remember seeing the movie when I was very young, and mostly what I remember was watching parts of it from outside the living room hiding behind the doorway because the Wicked Witch of the West scared me so much! Other than the scary Wicked Witch, I remember the story and its characters being absolutely delightful, and who doesn't love Judy Garland?! I don't think I've seen the movie fully since I was about six though, guess it's time to watch it again!
