What was your first show ever?
My very first show was a student production of Beauty and the Beast with the Kelowna Actors Studio in the Okanagan Vallay. I was fourteen, and caught the 'theatre bug' right away. The next year, I was cast as Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, so it is such a joy for me to be re-visiting this musical as a vocal director!
How long have you been working in your field for?
If love of music and singing counts as 'work', I've been doing it for 26 years! Specifically, I've just graduated with my Bachelor's in Vocal Performance with the University of Manitoba. This is my very first time working as a vocal director, but I have been blessed to perform in many operas, musicals and concert tours throughout North America and Europe!
Who is your favourite character from The Wizard of Oz and why?
It is very tough to choose just one favourite character, so I will have to choose four! The 'Spirits of Oz' are a very hard-working quartet of ladies who have some of the most difficult vocal music in the show. Whether Dorothy and her companions are discovering the magic and beauty of Oz, or the Wicked Witch is enchanting poppies to put them to sleep, the Spirits of Oz enhance each scene with their beautiful harmonies.
