How did you get involved with Secondary Characters this year?
I've always had a passion for acting in the theatre and it had been about a year since I was last involved in a show. When I heard that my good friend Emily was directing Oklahoma! I decided to audition for the part of Ali Hakim (despite my lack of musical experience). This will be my first time with Secondary Characters and, I have to say, everyone has been wonderful to work with.
What challenges are there in preparing to play Ali Hakim?
In Oklahoma, Ali Hakim is described as a Persian peddler. In researching for the role, however, I discovered that it doesn't seem to matter where his accent is from. He's been portrayed as Jewish, Italian, or from the Middle East. I decided that I wanted to give the audiences something a little different. So far, the most challenging part to playing Ali Hakim has been keeping his accent consistent.
What other productions have you done recently?
The most recent production that I was a part of was a locally written show called "For Groom the Bell Tolls." Since I was a part of the first ever production of the show, we really didn't know what to expect. The show was very well recieved and people are still walking up to me to tell me how much they enjoyed it.
