Prosthetics Designer is a new position for Secondary Characters. What is your job for this production, and what is the process for creating the prosthetics?
My job includes making the life cast of any actors who will need prosthetics, this process involves using alginate on the actors face to create a negative reproduction of their face, then using plaster I make a replica of their face. Then I can sculpt, cast, and pour custom prosthetics that fit perfectly on the actor using them. I am also responsible for the maintenance, repair, and application of any prosthetics we use.
Tell us a bit about your background in this area, and have you been involved with theatre in other capacities?
I went to school for Makeup at John Casablancas Institute in Vancouver and graduated with honors to get my Makeup artistry certificate in 2012. Since then I have been dabbling in costume design, creature design, and Special Effects makeup for stage and the movie industry. I have a variety of Short Films, Shop Experience, and two Web Series under my belt with more films on the way.
What does next year bring for you?
Next year is all about getting better with the tools of the trade and getting experience. I am looking to get into some FX shops and get into the growing Vancouver film industry.
