Welcome to Secondary Characters Nelly! What have you enjoyed most about working on Into the Woods?
Thank you! It has certainly been an interesting journey. I’ve enjoyed dabbling in a bit of everything throughout the show from building and painting sets, to stepping in to help stage manage, to hunting, making and buying props of course. Though tiring, it’s been nice to keep busy and be around enjoyable, talented people this summer.
What has been the biggest challenge in creating props for this show?
The biggest challenge by far was Milky White, it took the combined creative effort of 6 people and several weeks to make her come to life. She has become near and dear to me, and I cringe every time the cow ‘falls.’
What do you do when you’re not busy working backstage?
By day I am actually an elementary school teacher in Abbotsford. I teach a grade 2 French immersion class, though this week (and again in August) I am leading a week-long intensive musical theatre class through the Chilliwack Community Arts Council.
