Jud Fry - Oklahoma!
We’re happy to have you for your musical theatre debut! What do you find are the biggest differences between preparing for an opera and a musical?
Musical theatre and opera are very similar, I think the biggest differences would be where the emphasis lies. Musical theatre places a much greater emphasis on movement, where the emphasis in most opera productions is on the quality of sound. I would say the most successful productions in both genres borrow liberally from one another.
What's challenging about portraying Jud Fry? How are you like or unlike him?
Getting a hang of the accent and making it consistent is the biggest challenge. Musically it sits very well in my voice, and as far as similarities between Jud Fry and I, we are both proficient in practical matters. I sincerely hope that's where the similarities end!
What other productions have you done recently?
I just finished a run of an Operetta by Franz Lehar called "The Merry Widow", and last year I was a part of Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro" as well as performing the title role in Giacomo Puccini's "Gianni Schicchi".
