Sam - Oklahoma!
Why did you want to be part of this production?
I had just finished my first Musical (Fiddler on the Roof) a few weeks before Oklahoma started, and I really had enjoyed it. I was looking to continue my theatre season into the summer, and I was not at all opposed to jumping into a musical. I have not been disappointed.
How are you preparing for your role? What have you found challenging?
Same as usual, thinking on and off the stage in my free time about who my character might be, how he'd react to each scenario and just rolling with it. A bit of trial and error for sure, I won't lie haha. Practicing on and off stage, and working with everyone to figure it all out. It's really open, and a lot of fun to figure out with yourself and others. Finding the sweet-spot, and then building on it. I really enjoy this while playing Sam.
The whole musical genre is still new to me. There is always a lot of trial and error with any stage roll, for delivery, tone and presentation, but especially now with the dances.
What are you most looking forward to in this production?
Performing. This is my fourth show since graduating now. It's always so fascinating to see everything come together in the time you have to rehearse and finally hit the stage for it's final product. It's always really exhilarating to see it come to life bit by bit, and some of those bits are just a huge realization of what the story is and how it can come off. I found this moment really hit me last time when we put the whole story to work alongside the live orchestra. Incredible moment for sure. I'm sure I'll feel the same way here.
What’s your favourite line of dialogue from this show?
' "I don't say I'm no better than anybody else, but I'll be damned if I aint just as good" ' - Classic Aunt Eller.
What other productions have you done recently?
This season... A lot! "Shadowlands" & "Fiddler on The Roof" with Gallery 7, and I worked backstage for Theatre Junkies with "Beauty and the Beast", as well as a small role in a TV Movie called "Sorority Murder" and I'm currently working as a PA on an unreleased TV Show. I'm exhausted, but loving every second of it!
